Announcing the Lab Assistant Series
If you've kept up with us or been in our taproom at all, you know that we love to experiment and try out new things. We're also committed to keeping true to our homebrewer roots. To fulfill both of those needs, we're launching our Lab Assistant Series - collaborations between our brewers and local homebrewers to brew up some tasty and innovate beers on our 10gallon pilot system.
Our aim at first is to do one of these per month. That is subject to change depending on availability and our normal brewing schedule.
We've got a long list of homebrewer friends and supporters to work through before we open this up to the braoder community, perhaps in the form of competition.
Our first brewer is Thad Mitchell, a member of the Cabarrus Homebrewers Society (CABREW). Thad is the first local homebrewer I met after moving back to North Carolina. He lived in my brother's neighborhood and happened to drive by while we were brewing, and stopped to say hello and invite us to join CABREW. Thad's been a supporter of Thirsty Nomad Brewing in word and deed for many years now. We consider him part of the family.
Thad's beer is a Harvest Ale - a beer made with fresh hops - that uses hops from CABREW's Steve Propst "Premorial" Hop Project at the Elma C. Lomax Incubator farm in Cabarrus County. We can't test for IBU's, so we're not sure quite how bitter it is, but that's part of the fun!
